Cost depends on floor area, existing substrate condition, required preparation and the resinous system specified for each clinical space. General examination areas can require a different system from laboratories with greater chemical exposure or treatment rooms requiring integral coving and specialized transitions. Existing flooring removal, adhesive removal, concrete repairs, cove bases and phased installation can also affect project scope.
Installation can sometimes be divided into treatment rooms, corridors or separate operating zones to reduce disruption. The active work area still requires isolation for concrete preparation, repairs, coating application and curing. Scheduling should also account for dust control, ventilation, patient circulation and the selected product's return-to-service requirements before the area is reopened.
Existing vinyl, tile, coatings, adhesives and patching materials must first be evaluated to determine whether removal is required. Resinous flooring relies on a suitable substrate for adhesion, so mechanically preparing the underlying concrete is generally preferable to simply encapsulating poorly bonded existing materials.
